Remote Pilot Certificate – Recurrent Training Requirement for Drone Pilots

Remote Pilot certificate holders need to be aware of the FAA’s requirements for recurrent training.

Certificate holders must complete a recurrent training course or pass a recurrent knowledge test every 24 calendar months to continue to exercise the privileges of their Remote Pilot Certificate. For example, if the Remote Pilot certificate was received on September 15, 2016, the recurrent requirement will need to be completed on or before September 30, 2018.

If you are a manned pilot under Part 61 with a current flight review, you can take the online training course “Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Small UAS) Recurrent,” on the FAA Safety Team Website.

If you are a Remote Pilot and do not have a Part 61 (manned pilot) certificate, you you can take the online training course “Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Small UAS) Recurrent.”

Remote Pilot training materials from the FAA are available online, free of charge. The FAA’s Remote Pilot Knowledge Test Prep site provides comprehensive information to prepare for the FAA exam and the recurrent training requirement.
